Description

Ethnic tensions, rising crime and public disorder in early Fredericton form the backdrop to historian Gary Forward's upcoming presentation to the York Sunbury Historical Society's monthly lecture series. This event begins at 7:30 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Government House, 51 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. All are welcome and light refreshments will be served.

A former Fredericton City police officer, Gary Forward obtained his Master of Arts in History at the University of New Brunswick (2016) for his thesis on early policing and criminal justice in Fredericton between 1785 and 1916. Very little has been written about the Fredericton Police Force up to 1916, and even less is known of the nature of policing before the official establishment of the force in 1851. His research contributes to the understudied history of the subject as it pertains to police forces in small to mid-sized municipalities in Canada.

Gary Forward is currently the Inspector in Charge of the New Brunswick Contraband Enforcement Unit.
